Still not enough light for you to record the building details in the 1st. Look oout for tilting vertical lines.

2nd one didn't worked too. The composition is severely unbalanced, top heavy. On the top, you've included very little which showed a lot. At the bottom, you showed a lot which says very little.

noted Kit. thanks for the comments. I'd rather frank comments.
btw, how would you reccomend shooting the 2nd picture. my aim is to capture the reflection of lights in the water.

i'll try to shoot the first picture again maybe today. shoot just a wee bit earlier. hopefully it would yeild better results..

Try to go portrait instead of landscape to include more of the buildings.

You mean a tripod with a ball head?

If you are on a budget, take a look at the manfrotto 190 series. If you are into scenes and scapes, I wouldn't use a ball head because its very difficult to make precise adjustments. Try a 3-way pan head or better, a gear head. Manfrotto makes them all.

Why is it so difficult? Sometimes, it really about how you handle the tripod that makes a world of difference.

the one i have now is a 3-way pan head. but the bad thing about it is once i frame the shot and start to tighten the knobs, the framing runs. so i always have to compensate. so for scenes and scapes, a 3-way pan head is better than a ball head?

for $200 can i get something decent? or should i save up more?

That's the problem with the 3 way heads but the more expensive should be less susceptible to movement when you lock it in position. Of course, you can buy the gear heads to over come this problem but they don't come cheap and is quite heavy. You probably have to upgrade the tripod just so that the entire set up will not be top heavy. The Manfrotto 410 costs about $300 and the 405 which I'm using, about $700.
