Hi guys
I have a question reagrding my newly bought K200D Centre Focus point. When I'm using the Centre Focus, the red superimposed light does not appear in the centre of the bracket, but slightly below the centre point (but still within the bracket though). The other focus points are normal...only the centre point. It looks something like this: ![]() May I ask if this is normal? ![]() Thanks for any advice! ![]() |

This shows that you are focusing based on the highlighted point.
Use the 4-way navigation beside the screen to move the focus point. |

Could be the red AF indication is misaligned. How about the other points? The other points could have shifted also but different too small to notice. The other possibility coud be the viewfinder frame is a bit loose.
![]() It's best to just send to Shriro to check it out. |

Bro scorpioh, may I ask in your case, if you are using Centre Focus, where do you aim then?...ignore the superimposed red light and aim using the centre of the bracket or aim using the superimposed red light? Last edited by TrippleB; 24th October 2008 at 08:15 PM. |

I think u should use the red light. The grids are just drawings on the focusing screen. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Looking into the viewfinder there are 2 pairs of AF frame lines. Inside the frame lines are a total of 11 AF points that light up in red when a particular AF area is selected. The red AF points doesn't indicate that the subject is in focus, only the AF point selected. Even then, it only serves as a guide as the actual area that is selected is a little bigger than the red light.
The green focus indicator • only appears in the viewfinder readout when the subject comes into focus and is accompanied by a beep. If the • indicator blinks, the subject is not in focus. Focus is locked when the • indicator is lit. A mis-aligned AF light is common but doesn't affect camera functionality. My old K100D had this quirk.

I use a split-prism focusing screen and sometimes change back to the original matte focusing screen with the AF area guides.
It takes me about 5 attempts at repositioning the focusing screen to get the alignment of the screen and the red indicators correct. It's definitely does not affect camera functionality, as a bit of half-pressing of the shutter will cause the red light to blink, and after a while you get used to where the AF point is. But if it really annoys you, you could read up on how to open up the holder for the focusing screen and then adjust it a little bit to get the alignment right. I heard from someone that his red AF indicator was quite a bit off from the actual AF point.. ie. When he uses the centre AF indicator to focus on an object, the camera actually focuses on a point above it. Told me to try making a black dot on a white wall and focusing on it. If the AF point and AF indicator don't match then the camera will hunt until you do the necessary compensation. ![]() |
