Let's start....
I was shocked that the judging is so.... I look the Thailand winning photos - very street photography, journalist style of photos. There was pure photographs depicting everyday happening. More artistic and news worthy. Then why is Singapore photos so STAGED! I get my auntie to pose with old photo. That's it! I go studio, set up the props and shoot. That's it! I can't get a human subject, I wear Canon shirt and pose in "jumping" pose! Jump for a reason? That's it! We make it so COMICAL. Funny. Is it there isn't any worthy subject happening to shoot in Singapore? That I mean is, our surrounding is too structured, too clean and green, too perfect. We have to alter the scene and get the judges attention! If that is the case, next year... I surf the internet, get a picture and shoot directly on the screen. I get to pose myself in the photos in a comical pose. I make props to shoot in studio. Let me see.... I remember seeing most winning photos from other countries tells a story. The SIngapore photos is HAHAHAHA type of photos. Care to comment? I'm not jealous for not winning. Just a penny of thought. |

This event has put a "fixed perception" that Oh! if you can't find a suitable subject... staged it.
The Marina square alley, no one goes there.... let's go there and shoot..... I throw some paper, u use wide angle and shoot. Err... anyone care to explain the concept? Putting oneself in the photo and shoot in a comical way is errr... don't know how to say. With this photos, what are we projecting SIngaporean photographer as? It's like we can't join the World Press Photo contest, because Singapore got no breaking news photos to shoot at! Usually is at War-torn countries, Famine, Poor, Genocite and Disasters striken. Yawn! Singapore got no nice picture to take... |

Hi,
You are absolutely right ! I am disgusted over the whole tournament. Next time I will bring along my aunts, uncles, grandfather, niece to pose. I am totally disgusted by the way how these photos were taken. There is no soul in them, except one or two may be ...the rest are pose pose pose... my God...whats wrong here in Singapore. I am giving up photography, I feel so insulted. ![]()

Thanks for your support... at least I no need to go to Hong Lim Park.
Yup. The judge always got a human jumping high. Look so familiar as some of the contestant.... Luckily, I still have other skills like drawing, painting, designing and animation. This is not the only competitions I can join though. Believe me, see the rest of the countries winning entries and you will see the BIG differences. I like the BUSY theme photo of the birds in a small cage for the Thailand competition. |

I went off early too... I was so disappointed upon seeing some of these photos. As I said, one or 2 are good but the rest are ...hmmm
There is no soul in them (except one with old man starring back).I am into photojournalism and street photography. I emphasized on soulfulness and great connection. But this tournament really confused me. The worst theme was the ‘Freedom’ . What jumping got to do with freedom ? May be I am advocate of human rights. Rights of an education, rights of speech, etc. Our local photographers are so naïve in the interpretation. I am so sad. Look at those entries from Thailand and Philippines. You would see the difference in standard.

YUp!
Let me interprite the meaning of Freedom theme. 1) A child pushing his own tramp. He's free to roam around. That is freedom. 2) A package content open up sent from a distant country. 3) An egg hatching What do think? Better? |
