Easily the smallest anisopteran in the South East Asia region and one of the smallest in the world at 12mm long. This mature male is almost entirely red and it perched with its abdomen raised jealously defending its territory .

As usual, amazing shot.
P.S. I think the correct name should be "Nannophya pygmaea". I Googled it. |

By mentioning that it is 12mm, you made me want to purchase a macro lens.

Outlook, Daudalus, Melvin, Fave and Maddyks for viewing and the kind words.
Yes , it is unbelievably small and the color is so intense that at first glance you think it is fake. Here is a link to the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Singapore Site maintain by our local Odonata expert Mr. Tan HB. another shot of the male showing the same intense red and a female. at the above reference. BTW Mr TangHB is the Odonata expert in Dragonflies and Damselflies Thread at ButterflyCircle Forum. I am sure , he will be more than glad to help with the identification of Dragonflies and Damselflies. Cheers! Last edited by Bluesteel; 23rd October 2008 at 03:06 PM. |
