Hi all, sorry, but after searching the net for a whole night, still can't find any answers
![]() Just tonight, my 300D's shutter button went all wacko on me. Depressing the shutter-button halfway did nothing..... only when I fully depressed the button, then it would autofocus, release shutter. Tried 2 different lenses, same result. Cleaned the contacts off both lenses and the camera body, same result. Resetted the camera settings, same result. Can still take pics, but it's like devolved into a pure P&S now... Anyone have any advice? Other then sending it down to CSC.... sent it for fungus cleaning in Sept, they said covered for 2 months, wonder if send it down, is it considered "covered" under the 2 months? Or gotta pay some more? |

Exact thing happened to my 300D
The shutter release button was worn out, as usual, the service charge was more than the component cost, since I think they need to pull apart the camera quite a lot to access the button. Buy a BG-E1 and shoot vertically :P |

Same problem with my 300D (which I still use even though I have a 40D). Have not changed it yet. What I sometimes do is take 2 shots to make sure - the 2nd one is properly focussed since the prefocus was done on the first shot.
Not sure if it is worthwhile spending $100-120 on a new button given the camera is only worth 250-300. |

shall share my experience with the shutter problem here then.. well.. I did go to Canon, not once but I think thrice. each servicing only revived the camera for the next three months and each servicing was 120 dollars. since there was no improvement at all by servicing, I was compelled to change to the next usable model that time and I got the 30D as a result. at least the 30D hasn't shown any problem so far.. so you might be better off getting a new camera/ 2nd hand camera that promises to last longer.. like your 1D II/N 2nd hand is going cheaper and more affordable each day :P

It a bit off centre of the shutter button. sometime depress the button,it stuck on once side of the shutter button hole. it may bound to the assembly process of the shutter button assembly to the camera plastic housing it the production process...... ![]() Worth or not to spend depend on each individual. you may request for long service period. so the service cost it less not much. |
