its normal... when i got it I had the same worries as you.... brought baq to shop... shop showed me another copy of it, it too exhibits the same type of noise..
not convinced... i sent it in to Canon Service Center.. they too says its normal... showed me 2 customers copies of 70-200 F4 IS to me.... same... after that i am convinced.. ... |

you might think it was noiseless coz you did not use it in quiet place.
i used a couple of Nikon VR lenses. they also produced that clicking noise. i find my Canon 17-85 IS lens produces less IS noise than my previous lenses. i'm thinking of going for 70-200 f4L IS too. thanks to know that it "clicks" quite loudly as well ![]() |

This reminds me of a video talk I attended yesterday and the speaker narrated his experience at a shop. An auntie was complaining to the sales guy that something was not right her video cam which featured OIS. She shook the video camera and said it felt as though something was loose. The sales guy exchanged that copy for another model that did not have optical image stabilisation and the auntie was happy.
The speaker quipped the lady was plain silly and went on to talk about the advantages of optical image stabilisation.

Erm no..... the 24-105 f/4 uses the same generation of IS module as the 70-200 f/4 and it is a lot quieter. For some unknown reasons, the IS module on the 70-200 f/4 is much louder than others.
