Default How long does it take to service err99 at CSC?

I was using my friend's 40D body today and got the infamous err99 while shooting halfway.
Did the drill a couple of times and worked but it progressively got worse and worse until i got it every single time. The last few shots were underexposed even though metering was correct.

Hence i suspect it is a shutter release problem. Fortunately the cam is still under warranty.
Any1 knows roughly how long does it take to service such probs at CSC?

Most of the time, CSC will classified it as lens contact issue cause err99 is too generic. Recommend you rub your lens and camera contact with a eraser first and see what happen.

I actually rubbed my lens with eraser harder than usual and the contact actually changed colour. I have not really tested it yet but most likely it be solved as it only happen on 1 lens and one time it cut off the aperture control.

Err 99 is alot of error. Can be lens, battery, cf card and stuff in the camera like shutter failure.

On a side note thanks to Nicholas from CSC. He helped me to get my 40D which went into error 99 due to shutter failure repaired in 2 hrs. He also helped me in personal calibration of my 135mm. Once everything is done must really say a proper thanks to him.

i have performed all the drills and have narrowed it down to a shutter problem so I dun think its a contact problem.
My shutter is not opening, at all.

err99 means generally the camera doesnt know whats wrong, but from user experiences..shutter failure or poor contact seems pretty common..i got my shutter failure of the 30d fixed in about 3-4 working days..

any 50D users experience this? I got mine on 27 Sept, so nearly a month, got it twice.

will monitor and take it in if happens again. both times the shutter cocks but then doesn't release. remove CF card first time, then it worked. 2nd time had to remove batt then it worked.

Let me share my limited experience with this problem:

If err99 is confirmed lens problem, the usual cause is a broken FFC (flat flexible cable)
To be specific, it's cable that controls the aperture blades. That's the reason why the aperture blades are closed (viewfinder becomes dark) at default condition.
At early stage, the problem is intermittent since the cable is not fully damaged.

Solution: parts has to be replaced.
For repair guys without access to parts, the cable is joined using fine wires or improvised wiring. A bit troublesome but could be very durable if done properly.

I got an Err99 before too.

The reason was cos there was a lens error. The lens aperture couldn't close properly.

you could try cleaning the contacts of the lens and the camera.

when bringing down to canon, bring both the lens(es) and camera so that you wont waste time just in case you didnt bring it down.
