Default Can Canon 40D do IR?

Just like to find out if the Canon 40D is able to do IR photography before I get my IR filter.

For 40D you need a very long exposure, maybe around 15 to 30 s....... tripod is a must. and you may need to use something like f8.

never tried 50D.......

u might want to buy a used compact digital, doing long exposure in f8 or smaller under hot sun may shorten ur $$ 40d sensor, especially if there is a very strong hot spot (sun or sun's reflection).

So u mean to get a compact digital camera and convert it for perm IR photography? How much would it cost this way? Understand that Camera Hospital can do this?

no need to converted it perm lar, when u want to take, just slap on the ir filter, set cwb, shoot, than pp lor (thats what i did, newbie lar).

i was very lucky to get a very good condition canon g2 at only $200 early last year. compare to my newly purchased 40d at $1k+, if i am going to take lots of ir photos, i rather the y2k model g2 dies than the 40d.

I think I also have the G2 somewhere in my parent's home...I also have a S3 IS that can attach the IR filter on it. But I was thinking that if I could, I would want to convert the G2 for perm IR photography since I don't use it at all now. Then I also wouldn't have the issue with long exposure times....
