Hi Guys,
My friend bought a D300 last night (back in Pakistan) He switched his camera to CH mode and tried to test. When he clicks the shutter release, the camera shoots 5 to 6 shots and then stops! Isn't it suppose to shoot 1 - 100 shots until the buffer fills up and then stop? He was quite disturbed by this, I certainly have no idea what is the problem. I have tried a D300 and it certainly does not stop after 5 shots. Its not related to the CF card for sure, he tried the same CF card on a D200 and it shot 25+ shots continuously without problem! Any Idea? I already asked him to take it back to the store but still curious if any one had faced this kind of a problem ![]() Cheers, Faisal.

CF card speed may be too slow, plus other settings can limit the speed FYI

hmm, maybe the max continuous shots setting was set to quite low..?(not sure wads the default setting)
Maybe like what was mentioned before, the setting of the camera affects the buffer available. Though so far the lowest i have experienced is 12 shots buffer Is he in cervo mode? Maybe its cause his cervo setting is set to focus, meaning the camera will not fire off till it is in focus. |

CH can only be achieved by using MB-D10 + EN-EL4[a] battery.
Without it, CH can only go up to 6fps. I just test my D300 + Lexar 300x UDMA set to Manual 1/200s and yep .. it goes to 6 fps only ![]() [RAW 12-bit uncompressed Active D-lighting Normal ] Set Dlighting to Off .. it now runs ! 1-100 burst shots is for JPEG only my friend. |

![]() Whey you say "it goes upto 6fps" do you mean that it stops after 6 frames or continues to shoot at 6fps? My friend us shooting JPG only, thats why expecting 1 to 100 shots buffer But his camera stops after 6 shots ![]()

As said earlier, check you Active D-Lighting setting.
D300 goes upto 6 fps only with MB-D10 + EN-EL4. With those 2 , it can go upto 8 fps. Note I typed " frame per second " which mean speed. You can lapse the 100 JPEG in 15+ seconds or 12+ seconds. If you are in doubt, bring the camera to local Nikon Service Center. They should be able to tell you what is wrong |

Hello!
As mentioned above, D lighting does affect the speed. If you really need it, may i recommend setting it to "LOW" Here are a few other factors that affect the fps. 1) Image Quality. Setting it to "NEF (RAW) +JPEG Fine" slows it down. For optimum speed, i suggest you set the cam to "JPEG Fine". 2) JPEG Compression affects the buffer speed. As the camera takes a longer time to process/store the images taken. 3)ISO NR Sensitivity of 800ISO and above, reduces the number of photographs that can be taken in Single Burst. 4) Sometimes the camera may not be in focus, and thus does not allow you to shoot. CHECK your AF-C Priority selection. If it is set to "focus" then the camera will not release its shutter till object is in focus. For optimal fps, go for "Release", however during the recent F1 race, i was using "release + focus" and that worked fine for the high speed machines! Thats all i can come up with for now. Let me knw if these steps helped! Cheers SN |
