Is this lens better or should i get the 18-270 VC? Assuming both are the same price.

I think the Tamron's slightly cheaper, plus you get 70mm more

Review says the lens is mediocre at 18mm.

Super teles are always bad at either end- it's just that Canon's one is at 18mm. Sigma's and Tamron's weakness was at 200mm / 250mm.

The distortion will give landscapers endless headaches as the "bow" that the distortion creates isn't exactly simple to correct.

see my samples from Vivo a while ago...
