Default A Day at the Zoo

Hi guys, decided to post up some photos i've taken at the Zoo.
I think this time i've tried to concentrate more on focusing and composition.
All the photos went through only auto-color post processing.
I only cropped the photo with the polar bear underwater...
enjoy!

#2 - Otter

#3 - Hippo

#4 - White Tiger 1

Yup, i've read about rule of third but i'm not sure the proper terms for the other different kinds of composition.
Can anyone kindly advise me on the terms so that i can find and read up more on them?
Really appreciate it.
tks

You might want to zoom in nearer to your subject next time... I took the pic below using D50 with 18-200mm as well...

Haha yea it does. Maybe belly button? Or just another bored baboon.
But even if it's pcc, it is actually a common and regular behaviour of primates. I see that very frequently on nat geog channel.

i would recommend you for a 70-300mm lens, gets u more close up shots. Try not to put your all subjects dead at the center, unless u feel its neccesary, play with the composition, dun be too afraid to go to the extreme, u might find what u want

i am a regular zoo visitor, here's my link http://s49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...20of%20nature/

i am a fellow D50 user too haha, cheers

Probably will try that out next time. I do agree that perhaps i've been a little too 'conservative' in my photos when they are all in the middle.

hi, wanna ask a few question
can u share with us, how u take pic 16?
cos i was there, almost same position
but when i use shutter speed of 1/1000, it is almost dark
when i use 1/100 it was blur cos the animal moving too fast
note that i was using flash on 1/1000...
so dun know how to retify...

and for pic 21...
the sky behind would be so bright that the giraffe was looks totally "black"...
wonder what u set or how u make it so balance for the exposure?

thanks a lot

You need to have higher ISO. You may not need the shutter speed of 1/1000. I think 1/360 should be enough. If you have wide aperture lens, use wider aperture.

hi desertstrike, sorrie for the late reply...was away in Australia for 2 weeks...
anyway most of the pics i used 'program' mode...as i was concentrating more on composition and focus.
I think i played around with the ISO. if the shutter's too slow i'll raise the ISO...but normally i'll raise it up to onli 800 because if i were to set it to 1600, noise would be visible.
I did not use flash at all for this trip.
As for Pic 21, perhaps u could play with the EV settings.
Normally i'll take a few photos of the same subject. with normal, -0.3 and +0.3.
Kiasu abit ma...
hehe
=)
