Agree... but after so much anticipation... so how the 50D owners feel about thier purchase, has it life up to thier expectation and have anyone found any 'bugs' that sometimes comes with initial shipments etc... ??? or all so happy shooting no time to update their experience :-) ....

I found the High Speed shooting buffer not enuff, it only manange to snap 10 Shots at a time.
Plus internal flash recycle rate too slow.

Thats means the batt performance is not up to par?

50D user here... I love it! It's a big step up from my previous body (400D). However I have already encountered the dreaded "Error 99" crash once... whereas it never happened on the 400D.

do you encounter this with specific lens only or with all the lens that you have? I encountered this once, sent my camera (400D) and the lens for servicing and has not encounter any problem since. I was told that the contact between the camera and lens is dirty.

IMO send you camera for servicing before the warranty expires

So far only on my 24105... I suspect is the lens also. few days ago I use a eraser to gently rub on the contact. Just now I tried harder... now the brownish is gone... now more like gold to me. Let me see how later on...

I don't understand what has the release of 5DMKII got to do with 50D since one is 1.6 cropped and the other is full format and cost double the price for the body alone?

Hello all! I'm a proud owner. I love the LCD, such a joy to look at

Other than that, I have never encountered Err99.

Zero problems at all. The only problem is my tripod; I don't have one.

450D had a recent firmware update. Might want to check it out, it might eliminate the Err99 problem.

As for 50D your firmware shd be Version 1.02, if its 1.01 then will have Err99's for you to enjoy. Or at least a higher possibility of it happening on 1.01

i picked up my 50D on 27th in time for F1. then on 2.5wks europe holidays. took lotsa photos, will post once i get through them (just got back today).

1st impressions (1st DSLR) - it's worth the money. speed, quality of images, features and it is ideal with the 18-200 lens. lots more to learn with all the settings etc. i was looking at the 40D and this was announced a week before i was going to buy 40D. IMHO, if you are using 400D/30D or older, then worth upgrading since some technology improved. but if you bought a 40D hold up for another 12months and get next years model (whatever it may be).

i have had the err99 twice. will check the s/w version once i plug it in (been on the go from moment i collected it!).

i look forward to your input once i have my photos online...

been using the 50D for a few weeks, no Err99 so far. anyway got the firmware upgrade to 1.0.3 by Canon during the photo marathon last Saturday. According to Canon 1.0.3 not officially release yet.

Almost 2k clicks, no Err99 for me . . . still on 1.0.1 . . . perhaps the error is really due to the contact points? . . .

formerly on a 400D . . . focusing is a lot faster . . . images are a lot sharper . . . very happy 50D user here
