Talking Zuiko 150mm F2 nickname "Little Tuna"

Dear Bros,

Was wondering who has this lens or has used it before and can give me some personal feedback about it?

Got a few questions to ask.

This reason being is that I am keen to buy this lens.

I was thinking of buying the Zuiko 35-100mm F2 initially, but I already have the Sigma 30mm F1.4, the Zuiko 50mm F2 and the Zuiko 50-200mm.

So I realised that if I were to get the Zuiko 35-100mm, the rest would be almost automatically redundant and I like my lenses.

Thats when I eyed upon the "Little Tuna".

1) I am most interested in taking night shots but lack range among my lenses. I am not referring to shooting buildings and structure which the lack of a large aperture is overcome by long shutter speed. I am talking about like street shots at night, portrait shots at night, also maybe like the F1 race. Have any of you taken night shots with it? The best tele I have is the Zuiko 50-200mm which is still slow when zooming.

2) Have any of you used it with TC? What is the quaility in your personal opinion?

Appreciate your answers...

Cheers!

little tuna! hahah I suppose size does matter afterall.

One of the sharpest lens there are in the series, as sharp or just a little behind the 14-35 f2. I love it enough to take it with me on holidays as an alternative walkabout lens. It is not light but definitely more portable than a regular 300mm f2.8. Not a portrait person so most holidays are close ups, details and portraits. Not all strangers react well to being photographed and this lens gives you snap away and yet maintain a good lead if you need to run from an irate local. For example:

To me, this is the lens that really exemplifies the four-third's claims to smaller and lighter lenses.

If your budget allows for it, I find that the 35-100 is really quite different from the 50mm or the 50-200mm in terms of usage. Of course, it is sharp (but not as sharp as the 150), nice bokeh and bright. What works against it really is the size and weight.

Wow...you have that lens!!! Yup! Its called "Little Tuna" by a number of owners...

Haha...that's a funny picture...

It may seem strange to ask this question: Usually how far away are you from your subject? Using your picture as a point of reference...10m or 20m?

Cheers

I can totally understand why you would ask that question because I often find myself too far away from getting the desired framing if I use the 12-60 as a walkabout.

I'd say about 10-15 m? I must admit I cannot remember. But I don't have issues doing some cropping if necessary because this lens is so sharp.

And of course, if you slap on the EC-20, you have a 600/f4 that is about the same or smaller than a 300/2.8.

That is also exactly another reason why I want to get this lens.

The Zuiko 150mm F2 with the EC-20 gives me 300mm F4 which is pretty decent and a much cheaper alternative to the Zuiko 300mm F2.8 and also a much lighter lens.

Furthermore, I can always have the option to reduce it to 150mm F2 whereas the other lens I will be stuck at the range of the 300mm.

Here is a picture to show the image quality comparison between the Zuiko 300mm F2.8 and the Zuiko 150mm F2 with EC02.0

I think the IQ for the Zuiko 150mm with EC-2.0 is good enough for me.

Cheers!

Whoa! The 300mm F2.8 is at least S$11,000 and somemore built to order....

I really wonder if anyone of us here really owns this lens...

I will and die...haha

I hate you! I hate you!! Why the hell did u show me that amazing bokeh??!!!

Ahhh...but seriously, unless there is photoshop done here, this is the best bokeh that I have ever seen, not just in the 4/3 series, but among all other lenses!!!

Can someone post a pic of it??

Its my main lens for my bird shots. I carry both the EC-14 and EC-20 and effectively have 3 primes to shoot with

It works well for me and I have no issues with the bokeh. Hardly used it for street although shooting my brats with it has resulted in good pics.

2 samples shot with 150mm + EC-20 wide open.

nothing more we can ask for.

btw considering this ZD150F2 and Sigma 150F2.8 Macro, will there be a big diff in IQ? price yes I know, big diff.

Sigma 150mm F2.8 with EC20 will give you 300mm F5.6

Can I also ask you at what range did you take these shots?

Also about 10-15m?

Cheers!

There is a little over sharpening of the image in post... might want to look into this when you are doing post for print... but there is really nothing anything that one can find fault with the TIPA award winning lens...

I'm glad you like my favourite lens

I don't know much about the Sigma primes but their zooms I have found to be softer than the corresponding Zuikos, even the popular 120-400 and 150-500.

Anyway these are small birds and they were shot between 4-5 metres. The subject needs to be of a certain size in your viewfinder before you get real feather details. This lens gives nothing away to the competition.

You might want to know that the teleconverters are built quite tough. I dropped my EC-20 down a flight of hardwood stairs (abt 6 ft) and it still gave me the posted pics. My EC-14 I dropped on a marble floor and it bounced around a good 10 ft away before coming to a stop. It seems none the worse for it

Err.. Don't plan to do the same wit the lens though
