Hi all,
I took some pics at iso 3200 at 1/4s exposures and to my horror, saw many hot pixels all over the picture. Did some reading online and found out that many people had this experience, but with longer exposures. Any D90 users here face the same problem? I understand that it is normal with long exposures of more than 2s, but 1/4s is so short and i'm having these hot red blue pixels showing up. Advice please, tks! |

Is your long exposure NR on or off? If it is on, you should not have the noise.

ok will try to upload samples tonight..
The long exposure NR doesn't kick in at 1/4s exposures so can still see the hot pixels... |

In a dimmed hotel/restaurant banquet room, 10-12mm, can shoot 1-2 to 1/4s f4 handheld at ISO1600. (if i had beer / wine then need support lar haha). No issue on D70!

Can shoot the light streams of waiter/waitress steaming in during first march in, with the cold dish lit by flashing LEDs or candlelight.
1s, f4, 10-12mm ISO1600, handheld. |

sigh
TS not the only one with this problem. just bought mine and after some test under average lightings and no flash, i get to see one constant extreme hot pixel. there are few more but less obvious which i can accept. friendly store promise 1-1 exchange after the holiday but i begin to feel that its inferior quality possibly because all made in thailand now? ![]() |

BTW, if you develop in ACR, the hot pixel will disappear automatically. BTW, if you are anal about hot pixel, you can try olympus DSLRs. The DSLRs comes with a mapping function to remove hot pixels. Very convenient. I think minolta used to have it too when I had the KM7D. not sure about sony DSLRs now though. Last edited by pisduck; 27th October 2008 at 01:24 PM. |

send it in to NSC. they'll defrag the sensor. after that it'll be fine i've never seen a hot pixel ever since. worked for my d60, should work on d90 too.

True. I noticed some hot pixels on a picture I took at ISO 3200, 1/3 sec exposure at F/5.6 which didn't show up on "hot pixel tests" done with exposures longer than 1 sec.
