A friend who's into rallies (we're just talking about the motorsports type here) jio me to go watch the Ancom Malaysia Rally 2008 in Johor with him.
His job: To drive me there and explain rallies to me in general. My job: To take pictures of the cars. The Malaysia circuit has the racers going through different parts of an extensive oil palm plantation. The spectators can go anywhere and get as close to the "race tracks" as they want; just don't get knocked down. One car that got out of control momentarily went off the tracks and almost ran a spectator down , but he ran for his dear life and escaped unharmed .Head-on shots #1 ![]() #2 ![]() #2 ![]() |

Wow, i love Subaru Impreza WRX & Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution... there is this japanese magazine 'Rally X' tat i used to buy, tat has great photos of rally cars doing their thing... I guess the photographer must recce the route first, to see where is a good place or some place tat offers an overhead view or something...
The Lancer Evolutions are all so low... maybe the suspension more or less must be street spec is it? Looking at photo no.1, the terrain seems very off road. |

Yah, I'm not familiar with what rally cars do and what the best angles are, didn't do any research before going... Anyway I was just tagging along with my friend, so wherever he wanted to watch from, I just hung around there as well. The vegetation and spectators at the popular spots also limited the number of good spots to shoot from. I was also hoping for a more top down view from further away, but with the dense oil palm foliage it was pretty much impossible to find one.
The terrain was pretty rough, and some parts were dryer or wetter depending on the amount of shade. Can tell from the amount of soil thrown up during the drifts. Not sure about the types of mod allowed, but I know that all the cars are production models, and none of them are specially built for off-road. |
