Hello,
I will be going to Japan soon. And, will be bringing my 400D along. So, I am kinda worried if the shutters will fail. My question is, how durable are these shutter and should I even worried considering that I have 15k shots. Oh and tell me, if you have changed your shutter before for your 400D, how many shots have you done? Thanks.

they should be good for a 100k shots. ive used my 400d extensively for more than 50k shots, its still working fine. only worry if your shutter sounds slower then usual. then probably a time to change.

My friend, on a 350D, went over his estimated shutter lifespan; the camera's now somewhere over 100k actuations, and still going strong.

i do think the sound is a good way to determine the shutter life. i once used a 20d which the shutter sounded abit cranky before it gave way and gave an err99. i sent it to canon and they said they needed to replace my shutter.
as for my 5d it was abit different, abit unlucky though, there was once a day before an assignment, my shutter mirror dropped out (5d has this infamous prob) and i kinda panicked. i searched the net did a DIY as CSC is closed for the weekend and decided to use superglue to stick it back and it works. yea... so sometimes also see heng sway. |

i dont know how to describe it. its like the shutter runs abit slower. like never eat rice like that. ya... lacks punch. erm like its not that high frequency sound of the motor, lower frequency maybe? not a sound technician.

ok la; but the shutter life is somewhat down to luck. afterall, it is still a mechanical part and got people who suay shoot 500 shots only, the shutter die liao. that's why, iirc, it is covered under the 1 year warranty.

How can we check the shutter count?
Besides the upload to flickr method.

If you've been formatting your CF cards before using it, then yes, the latter 4, combined with your knowledge of how many ten thousands clicks, will determine your shutter count.
