Not sure if my observation is bias or what, but there seems to be more sellers of 17-50 than 28-75. Is it because 28-75 is a better keeper than 17-50? Anyone to comment?
I'm referring to the Nikon mount obviously. Thanks. Last edited by hemohemo; 12th October 2008 at 02:00 PM. |

Your words don't tele with each other, first you say the 17-50 has more sellers but than later on than ask if 28-75 is a better keep. Is it me or? I just don't get it. But if you are referring to why the 17-50 sells more the reason is it being a f/2.8 stop and give you extremely sharp pics.

![]() for one thing, they cover pretty different focal ranges(i say this despite the fact that they both are mid-range tele zooms). i mean, even if, say, the 28-75 did indeed have better IQ than the 17-50, would i replace my 17-50? No! Personally, i prefer the wide 17mm the 17-50 has to offer. ![]() In addition, the 28-75 works on FX while the 17-50 only works on DX-format. Could be possible that DX-user upgrading to FX wanna sell off a redundant lens? Your guess is as good as mind ![]() I guess the best way to find out why would be to PM the sellers are ask them why they are doing so? ![]() |

28~75 is design to be use on film originally.
17~50 is design to be use on crop sensor DSLR. which lens is more popular nowadays? so which lens you see more often at buy and sell. |

well, the 28-75 wasnt exactly a hot lens when digital came along and even in the film days, it wasnt exactly like the 17-35mm which everyone was dying to have. its a brilliant piece of glass thou a little heavy. its worth looking for now if you've picked up a full frame body.

Personally I prefer a 28-75 on my cropped body as it gives me more on the tele end.
I rarely shoot wides, thus it's not a matter to me. |

after using 28-75 for a few months.... i think 24-70 will be a more useful range.. just my personal preference. but still, 28-75 do a very good job esp when stopping down the aperture. i use it more often than my 18-70 kit lens.
