Changing of the Guards @ Istana (Oct 08)

Just to share some photographs of the monthly Changing of the Guards ceremony held at the Istana main entrance on the first Sunday of every month. The SAF Military Police is responsible for supplying the Ceremonial Guards to the President, and each month, this ceremony is held to replace the platoon of Old Guard with a new one.

The New Guard starts its march down Orchard Road at 5.45pm from the Heeren. Flanked by Traffic Police and Military Police outriders who control the traffic flow.

The New Guard reaches the Istana after a long and tiring march. The Old Guard, along with a hundred spectators, await them.





The ceremony ends with the perennial crowd-pleaser, the performance by the Silent Precision Drill Squad.



Some of the performances are literally magical.

The Old Guard finally marches off into the sunset. Nah, just to the Cathay.



The next Changing of the Guards will be on 2nd November. Sunday of course.
