thanks for the link. So may I also say that playing beach volleyball is a lame excuse for girls to exhibit themselves in bikinis to attract the attention of guys? I can direct you to evidences too -> visit Sentosa.

The "evidences" you have directed to me, are merely photos taken by glamour enthusiasts. If the entire clubsnap is full of such photos, perhaps your remark will have some credibility. But if you allow me to make a conservative estimate, this type of photos consists of less than 1% of the total number of photos. Don't you think you are using a bamboo stick to overturn the entire boat of people?

I don't know if I'm feeding a troll here, but this accusation is just too absurd.

Tweek: Well then, perhaps you aren't, and not all who claim to be interested in photography are using photography as an excuse.

But some people apparently are. But I shan't name names.

Don't fault me for making this accusation. Fault they who stained that art form.

just made the effort to find out more about you, and yes, have seen your website. Ok, now the accusation seems more understandable, from the remarks that you said some people made.

But I think it's a guy thing, to talk about girls and their figures and sex. Ask around see which guy doesn't talk like that (not in front of girls). I think it's just that the triggers for such talk in this case are the pictures posted in this forum. The photographers of these pictures may not have the same intention.

Yes, granted that some guys do make sexist comments on those pictures, but your initial accusation is too blunt and generic. Some people taint art, maybe, but they're just a small clump of black sheep in a sea of white fluffy ones. Btw I'm not directing at anyone either, just putting myself in your opinions and speaking from there.

wildhoney, hope you'll gradually wear off your skeptisms of photography. Cheers!

photography the process of making a permanent record of an image on light-sensitive film or some other sensitized material using visible light, X-rays, or some other form of radiant energy.

to me, its a form of creativity.
but honestly....when i first got into it, there wasn't much guidence.it was more of trial and error point and shoot type of shots.
now i guess, everyday you'll be hoping for something nice to take, something different, original....

Personally... Photography, to most of the people, provides a means to allow us to remember a moment or object since we don't have dolphine memory. It provides a means to document an event, process, procedure and allow rthe spread of information.

Many people feels that the human body is the most beautiful creation by nature... thus, I guess Human images just ends up a majority of the image produced. Just look at ads... Human are the most common subject. Tho many of these may not be the most artistic... Human image also serve as a memory booster... Just look at the snappers with P&S... its the people that are caught in the image that matters, not the lamp post on the head or the distracting background, and P&S are designed to catch image of human subjects... not sun sets and sun rise... People can spend &800 on a P&S that will only take simple pictures, but that's enough... cos that's what they need... Something to remember with... And scantly clad? Just a bonus... Its often the most effective attention seeking technique... effective on both gender.

But... all these are due to the way we are brought up... we were brought up wearing clothes... everything underneath is a secret... something mysterious... And curiousity is the drive to gain knowledge. We humans are knowledge seekers, with perhaps the greatest amount of curiousity... and thus, anything revealing something not commonly seen, is attractive. Look at communities that are brought up with only pactical coverage... individuals in these communities are not interested in what's underneath... or rather they are more curious why we cover up so much.

Next, let's look at the law of nature. All living thing's ultimate aim is to mantain its own existence, and to reproduce to maintain the exitence of the species. Even the simplest living thing, bacteria (virus' classification as living is still in doubt) does only two things, feed to maintain its existence and reproduce (Virus does only one, reproduce). We humans, are also bound to these laws, the opposite gender induce interest as they are part of one of the ultimate aim, to reproduce. Being scantly clad is more suggestive, and thus interest us more. This interest developes once an individual reach the stage of maturation when reproduction is possible. So its just human nature. But, being humans, we are defiant. A small amount of individuals break away from this circle. But, back to the topic. Due to these, we are interested in the opposite gender, and with a tool such as photography that allow us to document. Such an interesting subject immediately becomes comething popular to document.

Perhaps if we were elephants... we'll feel that the elephat body or trunk is the most beautiful creation by nature. hee hee

    My 2 cents

flare, your post pretty much justifies even the creation of sites like jcgirls n sammyboy.

I am aware of how much the human body is celebrated. I have seen, from photographic magazines how photographers are so fond of capturing the human body.

One difference is however, while the pics in these magazines can be classified as art because of the way they were taken which probably stemmed from the photographer's perception, a percentage of pics here look like they could have been taken right off some voyeuristic site.

Tweek: I never was sKeptical of photography still I started surfing the pages here more frequently. Now surely, that must imply something.

Yeah... I know what I said justifies everything under the sun. Just stating a biological fact.... that's how things goes. But pics here looking like they are straight from voyeuristic site? Well, let just hope that everyone here be responsible for what they post. Agree?

I remember you posted similar questions and remarks back in HWZ's DC&P era too....not in the gender issue, but questioning photography

that's why I have this impression that you're skeptical of photography. Ok maybe I'm wrong, I don't know.

Many inventions start with good intent, but there are bound to be people who will use it for less glorious purposes. Photography isn't spared from that unfortunately. This group however does not represent the majority of the population.

There are many of us here who may feel insulted by a sweeping statement like that, please 'thread' with care before this thread goes out of hand.

nerdie, as much as i disagree with wildhoney's over-generalized comments about the photography fraternity, i sincerely doubt that such accusations will change wildhoney's mind about photographers. these remarks are clearly unwarrented.

both you and wildhoney seem to be educated folks. such verbal mudslinging will only serve to exacerbate the situation.

let us at least agree to disagree. otherwise at least attempt to convince him in a manner in which he will respond favourably to.

An interesting point of view and one that I generally agree with.

At a professional level photographing beautiful women is actually quite trite. It's another day at the office for most of the photographers involved in such sessions as they are shooting in most cases at the direction of an editor, be it a fashion editor or director of photography. Many of these editors are women by the way.

At an amateur level I feel that there are some who try to be artistic and some who either are voyeurs at heart or simply haven't developed sufficient skill and appreciation of photography to make an artistic image of their subject.

One a final note and this is by no means a defence of those who post here. It should be remembered that a lot of the posters here are university aged guys, and frankly males at that age are essentially overgrown schoolboys where homonal balance is concerned So perhaps one should make allowences for their immaturity?
