Yes, all through viewfinder. I cannot do hip shot with only a 50mm lens mounted on my camera.

had a hard time to get a photo of people smiling.

I don't really see a lot of smiling faces in this series.
Do you smile when you walk along the street?
How close are you to the subject when you take photos of them?
I'm very close and maybe because they're aware of my presence, some of them will smile for me.
I like the way some of the images show the subject is like 'engaging a conversation' with the photographer at that particular moment, trying to convey something with their body language, expressions, even though it may be very subtle.

yeah i do smile.
but they will just walk away from my camera.
and my last resort would be just point randomly and shoot.
taking only the better ones.
usually i have a story in mind to before i shoot.
i wish i could share mine. =)

Wow, you do smile, I would love to take a shot of you if I ever meet you on the street.
Do continue to have a story in mind before you shoot and share with everyone when it's ready.
