Did you do any checks on the equipment manufacturer's websites?

http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses.asp

Somewhere a little further down the page it states that DG lenses are the ones you should look out for - these are suitable both on 35mm (FF) and APS-C formats.

http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/fast_zooms.asp

On this page, it states that Di-II lenses are designed for digital SLR cameras with smaller imagers, while Di lenses are designed for superior use with digital SLR cameras and conventional cameras.

Thank you very much calebk

actually i did check. But don't really understand what they meant, two of the "codes" also suitable digital camera/conventionals.

Anyway i take notice on the small apoerature and the sensor size that is detailed on ur link.

Thanks you

Smaller aperture? What are you talking about? The only thing differentiating lenses for smaller sensors than those for conventional 35mm cameras is the image circle. I can have a f/2.8 zoom for a FF camera, and another f/2.8 zoom for a crop camera, and they'd both still be f/2.8 zooms, just with different image circle sizes.

basically its
DC for sigma (not to be mistook as DG which meant that the lens is optimized for digital sensor, both FF and APS-C)
DX for tokina
Di-II for tamron (not to be mistook as Di which meant that the lens is optimized for digital sensor, both FF and APS-C)

any of those on the model, they are meant for APS-C sensor/film
