Default Tamron 90 vs Sigma 105

hi hi

was wondering if this has been tackled before - did a search in CS and couldn't find a thread.

reason i'm even asking is because i currently don't want to consider the nikon 105 VR.

i found this link - the only one i found with a rough comparison test of both lenses
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=16419690

if u own either, how did u decide? any user experiences? or even better, any direct comparisons to share?

thanx in advance!

I owned the Sigma 105 but I have never tried the Tamron 90. Personally I love it, very versatile and let you gain full control over precise focusing.

However one downside is the focusing ring. Its designed in a way that you can engage and disengage the ring:

1)engage- slow auto focus with manual turning control (standard in normal modern lens)

2)disengage- faster auto focus while you can't turn the focus ring at all

I am not sure if I explain it clearly but, you got to try it with yourself to understand. The good thing is you have extra controls, but the bad thing is sometimes you might engage or disengage undesirably.

Both should be good.

Tamron 90mm is more popular.

that's what i heard. i have seen equally beautiful pics with the sigma 105, but this comparison (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=16419690) prompted me to see if CSers have any thoughts to add in terms of imaging quality.

being able to switch between A and M easily is a consideration.

in the end, probably go with the tamron.
