Hi guys, i'm new to maintaining a DSLR and i noticed that I've got a speck of dust when i look through the viewfinder. Checked the mirror and don't think its on it. Checked lens and its clean. think it might be the portion where the af boxes are on. Any way to clean that portion? Used the blower but the dust is still there. Does not affect my photos but its just plain irritating...
Using a 300D by the way.... Think the portion i'm talking about is the focusing screen.... anyway to remove and clean it? Last edited by Arcfire; 19th September 2008 at 01:15 AM. |

There is another thread somewhere about cleaning the focusing screen of a 5D but cant seem to find it.
Do note that self cleaning carries it's risks ![]() |

Did you use an air blower to blow towards the viewfinder? Don't try too hard - you may make it worse. If it is trapped inside the pentamirror, you'll have to bring it in to Canon. |

Juz found a few sites with info on that. Tried it and couldn't wipe the speck off.... might have been a nick on the focusing screen cos i can clearly see it.... guess i might have to change one then... else live with it....

I got the same thing, on the viewfinder. Just point the camera up, remove the lens, point the blower at the top and give it a hard press. The dust should come off...
