I have a M6TTL chrome, 0.72x magnification I’ am thinking of letting go. I have since painted the ugly red dot black properly for discreet street photography, but I had added 1 fine scratch on the front so I’ am letting it go for a lower price due to the fine scratch (you can polish it away if you wish but I believe in keeping all marks I made on my cameras as they are).

I got it overseas for $1960USD plus extra $40USD for shipping excluding GST here. All in all, SG$3k plus. Expensive, but it is 10/10 condition that’s why I’am willing to pay extra for it. So except for the fine scratch mark I gave it, it is perfect. All mechanicals are functioning perfectly and very accurately. Viewfinder is clean, no haze, no dust, no fugus. It is basically like new except for that fine scratch which you can polish off if you want in future.

I’m thinking of letting it go for around SG$2.4 range since the whole set comes with original box and papers and original strap for retaining of value next time if you decide to sell. I used it for 2 months only and selling it to fund for my MP otherwise it is the best camera to retain its value. M6TTL as known, is the next best camera to MP which cost twice only because of the other shell. I don’t mind losing over $600 (the excess I paid for the minty set) in just 2 months because of the fine scratch I gave it.

Why M6TTL? M6TTL has ">O<" for very precise metering for truly anal photographers unlike that of m6 classic with only "><" which might not give the shooter the very precise exposure he wants. You can use it with external flash units for low light shooting OR just those funky light trail effects in clubs with the flash unit.

Why chrome not black? Blacks are everywhere. Black lacquer on modern Ms will wear off ugly unlike black paint like that of MP so people stay off black M6s. Unless you like seeing the ugly gold or chrome bits and pieces when the lacquer wears off. Personally, I feel a Leica should be classic chrome, I don’t know, its personal taste, no right or wrong.

Why 0.72 not 0.58 or 0.85? 0.72 is the standard, for wide angles and tele lenses. 0.58 is very much used for wide angle lens for landscape, but using faster lenses like Summilux or others below f2 is a struggle and many times pictures turn out of focus because the focusing pad very small (not ideal for street photography since everything happens in an instant). 0.85 is great for tele-lenses and ultra fast lenses BUT for wide angles frame line, the shooter has to “imagine” the extras so not great for landscape or buildings etc… 0.72 is the standard and is the one to truly retain its value all the while.

For weeks I have searched ebays and other places, not a single chrome 0.72x TTL is available for export other than 1 that is for USA only. Very rarely, Leica dealers will deal out of USA for fear of fraud and taxes, some still think that Singapore is part of China, making this is a very difficult camera to obtain.

for the 0.72x magnification, you can add a step up screw in magnifier 1.25X and have a 0.9 view in the end for even better and faster focusing on ultra fast lenses like the Lux.

additional info:

the black dot is painted in a professional way with paint and a thick layer of convex rubber is sitting over it making it a solid "glass-like" emblem. NOT marker painted with fainting mark.
