ISO 12800 looks extremely usable, almost like the iso 3200 in the current 5D

Amazing, even at 25600, I can almost see the time on the man's watch, and the LCD screen on the photographer at the corner...

Frankly, it seems ISO25600 is better then 3200 for my 30D, and the ISO12800 is at least on par or better then ISO 800 for my 30D. And definitely even more so if we look at it at image level and not at pixel level.

The 6400 ISO pic looks like the 1600/ 3200 ISO pic in 5Dmk1.
So prob a one stop advantage? A doubling of megapixels shld increase the noise alot more, but i think it is redeemed by the slightly better microlens gap reduction and better circuitry with lower voltage. So a one stop improvement to me is quite impressive oredi. The 12800 and 25600 ISO is worse than any ISO settings on the original 5D, haha really. I think Canon just put the H1 and H2 iso just for sake of competing with D700, can only be used for desperate situations, the noise and details smudging from noise reduction is quite heavy-handed, look like camera phone pictures. |

I used Noiseware Professional to reduce the noise of the ISO 25600 image, did some sharpening and reduced the size to 10 inch by 15 inches and I find that the image is pretty usable.
![]() At 4R size, it is definately more than passable. ![]() |

Thing is how much better than 5D Mk1 without all those fanciful NR? tat is a point that is really interesting to know.

But can't really draw a conclusion since you need the two cams to take the same pics with the same lenses and at controlled lighting in order to get an accurate comparison. |
