I am curious if you are happy with the 5D replacement.
Is it good value for money?

No... it's just the original 5D caught in the mega pixel race.

That said, the 5DII is shaping up to be an interesting camera...was hoping for an upgrade in AF but that would cannibalize the 1Ds series sales. With advances happening at the speed of light I'd probably sit back with an old camera and wait till I want or need a second camera before moving on to something newer. |

The 5DMKII has higher megapixels and higher ISO which I don't really think its a lot of difference form the 5DMKI. It also has a movie function which I don't find a need as you get a DSLR to take pictures and a video camera to take videos. But those who want to take video and pictures on just 1 camera, this might be just the right choice.

I am happy with the price based on this new spec. It is always relative on how much you are willing to pay verses what you can afford.
No use to have a full spec camera I can only dream of owning (or drool over). I would rather get one with reasonable spec that I can live with and at the same time one that I can afford to own. |

Dont mind topping up 1K more for a pro AF but this clearly wont happen until 3D is out. With a price tag less than S$4K, this is practically what I want from a prosumer body. In terms of priority: ISO6400-25600 (no need flash any more), RAW at 21MP (landscape), sRAW at 10MP (good for wedding or event), HD video (I was actually budgeted 2k for this but now get it for free, a brand new world of opportunities), micro lens adjustment (no need to visit service center), better LCD (to show off to non-photographers), 5D kind AF (good enough for non sports/birds).

In a nutshell....no....the new features aren't enough to entice me to upgrade. I am not that keen on the video mode (maybe some are but not for me), to me a DSLR should be just doing what it does best that is, taking still pictures.
I am also quite disappointed that there is absolutely no change in the AF module from the old 5D. I guess Canon decided not to incorporate better AF for dual reasons, one, not to cannibalize their pro series model, two, they target the cam squarely at the advanced amateur/semi-pro crowd who use the cam mainly for weddings, landscapes, portraits and the like. Clearly, market segmentation YET AGAIN. C'mon Canon wake up lar!! ![]() Just seen the hands on preview on dpreview, mostly it seems a very good camera, especially for those who need the high megapixel count and video mode shooting combo. For me, I will probably wait for 2nd hand 5D prices to tumble (hopefully below 2k), before considering to pounce on one. (already have the lens lineup I need...now just want a FF body). |

the specs were ok. not fantastic. the video is interesting esp for those who travel overseas for holidaes.
haha imagine wedding photographers are videographers too. haha i hope reviews will come out soon. i think pricing wise it has done pretty well. for me it's more than enough. i would like to try out the camera first before deciding.

Amusing isn't it? For more than 1 whole year, people have been bitchin', swearing, cursing at Canon for not showing a 5DII. Now that its finally here, people say it was rushed out........

The reason why FF bodies remain out of touch for most is because until the very recent times, only Canon (ok there's Kodak's and Contax's forgettable attempts) was churning them out. People were paying $16k for a 1DS when I was in Australia. Sure, the price did not drop but compare what you get for over $10k now to 5 years ago....... miles ahead.
If your computer can't handle 21MP, there's always a choice to use sRAW and shoot on 10MP. Have you actually read the specs? I can bet my last dollar that if Canon were to make 50 different FF bodies, still there will be people who complain. For one, there will be some wise arse complaining about the abundance of choices, he had to start 30000 threads to help make up his mind. Know what? By the time he made up his mind, a new camera comes along. He will blame Canon for rushing out cameras but hey!! 2,905,043.434 others would have been cursing at Canon for being tardy...... again. |

additional AF point was what's really necessary in terms of specs.
Hopefully the actual performance/IQ will excel against the competitions. |
