Default Inaccurate exposure with Canon flash unit (compared to Nikon flash)

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415361

Perhaps some of us can provide some insights and findings to this

I believe the D200 user might have used TTL BL mode. Where the flash actually compensates for the BG lighting.

This is one strong point for Nikon flash system and I recall reading a blog about a wedding shooter who reccomends that Canon users need to dial in more negative flash ev to compensate as opposed to the Nikon users in the same scenario.

But if the user is on TTL-BL mode, indoor shots with a relatively dark background will yield an underexposed subject as the flash would try to match the subject with the background...

At least that's what happens whenever I forget to switch back to TTL mode from TTL-BL.

Posting comparison shots would be much more helpful in understanding how much of a difference we are dealing with here.

But it would prevent the subjects from being over-exposed.... which is what the guy on the Canon side is preventing...

If everything done is the same, then I think it might have to do with the camera curve. TS did not mention if the flash was bounced or direct on both the Canon and Nikon, so it may not be a fiar comparison. If exposure is the same (best way is to check the EXIF), then the ambient exposure should be the same unless flash was bounced.

For me, after using Canon for 2 months, change to Nikon. Have problem with consistent results with external flash for my former Canon. Is it true that each time we bounce the light, the flash will always fire at full power? Using SB600.

Canon or Nikon? It doesn't matter; both are very good.

unless you are using manual in full power otherwise your flash will expose for the scene based on the pre-flash information, ISO and aperture settings.

More than enough... I normally use iTTL only. And dial in the flash ev to balance out certain scenes...
