In the last two months upon its release, the price of D700 in Jakarta camera market has experienced a phenomenal drop. The opening price of 30 million rupiahs back in early August 2008 was already a history. Current market price is at 25 million level.
It is interesting to note that a newly-released Nikon DSLR has always been over-priced by the traders. However, the current situation seems to be a bit out of anybody's prediction. A drop by 5 million (or 16% for the above pricing) in just five weeks is really surprising. May be it has something to do with traders' speculation.
May be it has something to do with anticipated competition from Canon and Sony.
May be it has something to do with anticipated market launch of D90, too. Not so much of exchange rate this time but the imminent release of its competitors' 35mm format as well as an upgrade of it's own flagship I guess.

I guess it will be some day in the future. By then, we would wish for something else.
A D200 is now below $1000. Two years ago, it was $2200. So maybe, two years from now, the D700 will be $2000. ![]() Cheers |

Sorry. the first hand price for D200 is 1200++. $1000 is for 2nd hand price. Got mix up. Today blur blur.
I guess a lot of brothers out there are also waiting for the D700 to be more price friendly before they commit to the FX wagon. For me, in the short time horizon, I am still very happy with with my DX cam. I think I will take some time before I am good enought even to consider the FX. Cheers Chng |

Let's keep the topic to equipment rather than like a stock market, Any price issues please post in Consumer corner
Lately there is too many posting on prices and checking on prices once every few days that make this section of the forum look like a stock market. Any future pricing or consumer talk post it in consumer corner. Thread close |
