What means 'each' here? I understand that it needs one hand-held sender and one receiver to have the full function of remote triggering. So does "each" refer to a set of one sender+one receiver?

"Each" means each 'set', which consist of one receiver cum transmitter! Pardon for the confusion!

Hello,

The transmitter users a 23AE 12V battery, and the receiver uses a 3V CR2 battery.

The transmitter battery has a life of up to 3 years and the receiver battery has a life of 20,000 times.

By the looks of it, i don't think so
its just that the horse-shoe mount seems like a logical place to hold the unit

Hi, the receiver doesn't need to be mounted onto the hot shoe! Well, if you use a flash, then the receiver will be dangling or you can clip it to your tripod or something, or get a L bracket etc.
