One very effective way to clean mould off your wooden furniture is to use diluted vinegar, 1 part vinegar and 1 part water will do the trick. The smell will linger only for a day, two at most.

....I am just thinking out loud ..... what are the chances of us converting our whole room or house into a 'DRY CABINET' on a regularly basis ?

So that while I drop the humidity level of the 'setup'......I can chant ....'die mold die ...... die mold die'

That will rid me of all my frustration of cleaning AGAIN and AGAIN. My better half wants a long term solution ..NOT long term cleaning ... there are just too much leather and wooden stuffs in the house....

turning a home into a 'dry cabinet' is not possible. u'll need lots of (moist)urisers! & or end up looking like a raisin. haa... does ur aircon have a 'dry' mode? mine has, & i wonder wad it does... wood & leather furniture themselves do not attract mould de leh. have u tried looking at e problem from other perspective?

do u have a water feature at home for good fengshui, own plants that needs constant watering & are kept indoors, u using steam iron for clothes, any other appliances that release water vapors (hot steam for feet) into de air?

or u wanna swap some of ur furniture with a plastic equivalent?

I used to have such problems at home, too.

Try those Olde English furniture (wood) oil, or Lemon Pledge for wooden furniture. Try a similar type of cleaning product for leather sofa. They will help to seal the surface of the wood, and the oil/wax content should repel some of the moisture from the wood. Both can be found at supermarkets.

Actually I think it is possible to make your house dry, but that is provided you have aircons in all your rooms and living rooms. An airconditioned room is basically quite dry, so it should helps to keep away the moisture and mould. But the downside is that your electrical bill is going to be high.

To the TS, do you sit on your sofa often? Actually I think 1 of the main reasons why the fungus are able to grow is that they're left dormant for a period of time.

If you use your sofa regularly (like everyday), I dont think this problem will suffice.

Just speaking from my own experience.

Thanks for sharing, guys...will look out for those recommended oils and pledge

Pokka, I do sit on my sofa..then again, there are parts which nobody will lean on.. like the sides and back of the sofa..thats where the mold are residing

Even my leather bedframe has them ... haiiz ...what i am doing these few days is shifting my affected stuffs to where sunlight is... hopefully this will deter them from resurfacing again

I am going to try the vinegar formula soon .... in the long run, i have read that if left untreated, these MOLD will emit a odour...so i better not let them happen ..if not, my next purchase will be air fresheners

OMG!!! The 2 TV consoles I bought from VHIVE in 17 July 2008 had gone mouldy in three months!!!

Now only that, there're tiny soft-bodied FLIES breeding there and they fly all over the house...

    What can i do??

This is the FISRT time my furniture is breeding flies!!!

I've just pasted those wood-llook sticky paper from DIY shop onto one of the consles AFTER clearing the mould using Pledge lemon i got from NTUC.
But, I don't know if it'll worsen or what...

The other one is simply too heavy to move coz of the TV.

    HOW????? Help!!!

Try the vinegar method once to kill off the mould and use lemon pledge regularly.

Mould tends to grow very well in places that are not well ventilated or near water source i.e. bathroom

I have had furniture where the mould problem never went away for years, but when I moved in to another place that was well ventilated and not so near the bathroom, I never saw any more mould even after a few years. Same pieces of furniture!

The fact that MOLD do spread easily...... you just have to keep your stuffs ventilated and if they are affected, get rid of them now and henceforth, monitor the same piece of furniture. I have recognised that there is no perfect cure.....

My father had his own upholstery workshop and specialised in leather furniture, he made a leather sofa and chairs for me. He would tell his customers they could put leather dressings and creams if they wanted to spend the money but what he would advise was vaseline. Twice a year rub it on fairly liberally, let it soak in for a good four hours then wipe off excess and give the entire sofa a really good buff up. Dad made my lounge for me in 1978, I have since given it to friends seeing as I moved into a smaller flat, but it is still going strong, no cracks just wear from many years of use. I live in Darwin and we have the same weather conditions and mould problems as Singapore if not worse. My youngest son is in danger of moulding up sitting at his pc playing games.

    My place is in Sembawang.

But then, my windows are normally 24 hours, 7 days a week open.
Except for the kitchen when i go to work.
Even then, my kitchen's furniture never had any mould problem.
