Thread: Kranji War Memorial.

    Default Kranji War Memorial.

My attempt at doing HDR. Felt i could have done better with the alignment, Noticed it's tilted to one corner. Used 3 exposures combined in photomatix went for the more "illustrated" look, then played with curves in PS. Hoping to get some C & C on what can be improved or what i should have done. Thanks.

Try using the Rule of Thirds helps produce nicely balanced easy on the eye pictures. You can place points of interest along your camera grid lines that your photo becomes more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally.

Noisy and heavyhanded HDR application. I can see the intention to make it look like a painting, but the execution falls flat. Blotchy colours and very heavy haloing make it unappealing. Colours are also not very natural.

The halo definitely does not work for me, but on the whole I find it interesting as it has qualities of turn-of-the-century hand-painted photograph postcards that I collect. The exaggerated contrast, the OTT colours...: see vintage example at http://www.moodyscollectibles.com/pixfiles/11852.jpg & a modern attempt at http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1281/...5a4548.jpg?v=0

I guess keep trying and I'm sure you will perfect a particular unique and aesthetic look-and-feel.

    cheers,

I agree with bro Calebk's opinion, the HDR application is overdone. Notice the haloing around the perimeter where the sky merge with the trees.

Be careful of the halo around the trees and the contrast is too high.

    cheers,
If it weren't for the halo-ing, I would definitely consider it to be a style...but in this case it is not a style, but simply a case of over-usage of a tool.

Thanks for the comments, appreciate it. I tried to get the halo out as much as i could hopefully i did ok. But i still left the rest as it is because from the painted picture was what i was going for. Keep those C & Cs' coming, greatly appreciated. =)

Its about 5-7mm thick around the top of the trees. One good way to check is to temporary up your contrast and you can see it.

Have you been eating alot of Hello Panda lately? They contain pigments which halt our visual ability to see halos. Like seriously, zomg.
