Default Disable Flash Firing with 1D Mark III?

Hi people. I like to use my 580EX II's AF assist beam but sometimes I prefer not to fire the flash (use ambient lighting). Currently I go through a relatively long process to disable flash firing through the menu, is there a short cut? Thanks!

Use yr cFn and under the option for flash, select the one that says Emits/Does not fire IIRC.

If you need the AF assist, I think logically most manufacturers would assume that you need artificial illumination.

The other option is to just use an ST-E2.

That's similar to what I've been doing. Well I guess that's just too bad for me

I would also check with Canon's tech dept ... just to be sure. The 1 series cameras have an amazingly huge range of customability, so what you're looking for may just need a different configuration.
