Default 40D from Japan - Good value???

Hi , i am newbie and have been wanting to get a 40D for the longest time and currently happened to be in tokyo. Managed to source out some prices today.
I was offered by a camera shop in Akiharaba and still contemplating....
    Body - 86,000 Yen or ~SGD 1,135
    Body with EFS 17-85mm - 124,800 Yen or ~SGD 1647.
I believe it 350-400 cheaper than SG price .

All standard acessories but without CF cards and others. (English software) I know only local warranty only, i was thinking within 1 year can have problem meh?? . My compact canon IxUS model, 4-5 years still working well. at most pay for repair lor if sway sway...

How do you guys think? Good value???

Also from a second hand shopping offering:
    1) EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 -10,000Yen or ~ SGD 140.
    2) EF 70-200mm F4L USM - 55,800 or SGD 736

Still got international warranty. Good value also???

    A

That's a extremely good price compared to Singapore. I think one year is not a problem like what you say, sway sway.

I don't get the part you are saying about the international warranty.

Do not buy the 75-300mm unless you're not bothered by bad image quality.

Build quality of the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens is mediocre (and this may be a generous rating). Lightness is the benefit, but you won't find smooth zoom and focus rings. I wouldn't want to subject the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens to a lot of abuse as I doubt it would survive.

Image quality from the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens is also mediocre.

The Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens is soft wide open at all focal lengths. Sharpness decreases as it zooms from 70mm to 300mm. However, the corners are softest at 70 and getting better by 300

PS: I think Canon may phase this out in flavour for the EF-S 55-250 IS. Whoever that owns a FF dSLR(and hence cant use the EF-S tele) should at least have some decent money for the basic 70-200 F/4 USM
