Default LX3 review by Digital Life

I find it mind blowing that nowhere in the review was the 24mm f2.0 lens mentioned.

Those are the takeaway features and they are not mentioned.
For goodness sake, it's even printed on the camera body!

Not a surprise.. it is never accurate when u are reading reviews from The Strait times..
Which brand pay the most money for advertising with The Strait times,
will get the best reviews, even if it's a crappy product.

The ST's author comment on "tries to be a DSLR-like..." is abit strange, the look & size of the LX3 look more like a compact then a DSLR.

LX3 is not an DSLR class in the first place. This statement is soooo off. Current compacts confirm sure lose when compared to DSLRs lol...shld compare apple to apple.

true that LX3 is not a DSLR or even a contender. but many of those interested in the LX are ppl who into DSLR and wanted a more portable compact as backup.

thus, the review has pointed very clearly 2 things that potential owners will look at, nosie level and picture quality.

about 24/2. whats the point of the big aperture when the noise is bad at higher ISO?

defeats the bright aperture since you can use high iso.

If they wanted to compare a "compact" to a DSLR, they should use SIGMA DP1 instead.....

sadly, nowadays many people care about the sensor capabilities than anything else even optics and everything the camera can give to make it at outstanding product.

of cos put into the context of today's cheap dSLR world, this high end compact loses its shine..

Ultimately it comes back to the point that the LX3 is a compact - nothing changes that fact. If people are choosing it to use as a backup - they would have to live with the expectations of a smaller and compact chassis. To think otherwise is wishful thinking its like packing a 18mm-600m f2.8 zoom that weighs in at 1kg.

It's just that i feel with the other comment by a CS member that the review in order to be more complete - should have brought out all the features of the camera. Reviewer is of course allowed to give his own input.

This all being said wonder how the LX4 would look like :P

Not everyone understands what is f2.0 - 2.8 y'know...

And the other thing is that the LX-3 was reviewed by a gadget geek, not a photographer, and the disparity shows.

I would ignore this review, in fact, I'm starting to question whatever is printed in Digital Life (and by extension ST!)

Totally way off review by so-called "gadget enthusiast". I've shaken my head more than once at his previous reviews... Of course everyone will have their own favourite brands/models/features, but if you're going to be reviewing for a national newspaper, you should at least be objective and thorough.

Straits Times - take note.....

To impress a gadget geek, the camera must have 25mp, 30x zoom, 10-stop image stabilizer, GPS, GSM, 3.5G, BlackBerry, MP3, Guitar Hero installed, etc, never mind if it takes a crap image...

once 'spoilt' by the quality of DSLR, it becomes hard to accept the qualities of compacts, the sigma with aps sensor would be a better comparison.
