Default Tips on shooting rsaf planes

ok, i'm not really into photography, just a big aviation fan who got an account to view pics. Well, I got a school asignment and wanna take some rsaf pics, i got a few during open house, but seems like need a bit more. anybody living around PLAB/TAB or any other AB know the appoximate times of fly-by's and good places to shoot from? I know it's kind of a long shot. just hoping anyone knows.

You can always see Fokker 50s or KC-135Rs landing at Changi as they are based there. Try Changi beach if they're landing on runway 20R and Changi business park if they're landing on runway 02L

Kaki Bukit and Ubi area, that's the route they take for landing. Just take a map (or Google Earth) and extend the runway towards the city using a ruler. Then you'll see which areas and streets it crosses. At Old Airport Rd towards PLAB, after junction with Hougang Ave 3, there is a new POB, should be high enough to take good shoots without the buildings. But try in evening when the sun is low and in your back. C-130 are flying slowly then, good to capture. The fighter jets are hard to get, still quite fast when coming.

I suppose you want to catch the planes in flight? You can try Punggol. When the planes take off from PLAB they will fly past here.
You'll be able to catch F-5s, C-130s and occasionally Fokker 50s. You may even get to see visiting US planes like F-18s and C-17s (just saw one landing this morning, in fact).

Hope this helps!

With more luck you'll even see a 747 Cargo of ANA coming for maintenance Saw them repeatedly on a parking position next to Old Tampines Rd.

US planes would be a big surprise to lucky avaition fans, I saw F-14 taking off several years ago(may be 2004), and biggest surprise was B-1 landing form north to sourth several days after 2008 airshow.

...And all helicopters are based in Sembawang. They fly, almost everytime, in this predictable loop pattern. Many places to spot them. I have full view of them from my window

Yeah, can shoot from those flats along WL Ave12. Can shoot all of them, the Chinooks, the Apaches and the Super Pumas.

If you have lots of time in your hands, do have lots of practice.

Welcome to Aviation Photography. Art, science or lots of techniques.

The first basic requirement is a Long Telephoto lens, the longer the better. Minimum is 300mm and still need to crop a great deal. Anything longer than 300mm means spending BiG bucks liao. In bright daylight, you might be able to get by with an entry level 70-300 zoom. For slow flying choppers and big birds like the C130, the AF might be able to cope.
