Default My Take of the RSAF Open House 08

Hey guys! Here's a series of shots from the Singapore Air Force open house. I went with a 30D, 400D, 17-40L & 55-250mm. The telezoom helped for static shots but couldn't keep up with the fast planes at all, so I didn't post them up. 250mm was too short, but that's the longest I could borrow from within my photographers' circle.

I went on Friday with my school.

Alright, enjoy the series:

Formation - 2x F16s + 2x F5 Tigers, getting ready for take off. (As seen in my other dead thread)

F16C Fighting Falcon - Taxing on the runway

F5 Tiger - Taxing on the runway. I can't believe these are still in service today.

Simplistic Complexity - Interior of the F16C's Thruster. I used a flash with orange filter for this.

Aaaaand to top it off, a shot of Yours Truly, with a F16 from the Black Knights, a red&white version for use in aerial stunts.

(Yes, I know I look.. weird.. in that pic, heh)

Hope you guys find the series interesting =) Maybe next year I'll be able to get a 100-400L or 400 f/5.6L prime with 50D. That'll be great.

250mm isn't too short when you have a 30D with 8.2mp and a 400D with 10mp...... I got by with 200mm on a 6mp sensor. Try cropping it closer, and some unsharp mask. You might find that the results are still fairly usable.

Nah, 400mm on FF is still too short for shots like these. I couldn't catch any aerial displays of the jets because the AF was too slow, so I tried to MF, but the 4 plane formation didn't fill up the frame, so it didn't work.

Cropping and sharpening is exactly what I did for the posted pics =)

If my information is right, you can't bring in more then 300mm lens. Just in case you are trying to do so the next time, better check before you get turned around to home.

Restriction was native 500mm lens (that means the lens says "500mm") and mine was 250mm, but on 1.6 crop it became 400mm field of view. How I wish I had the 100-400L
