Tamron announced the development of it. Don't know when it will be out. Doubt it will be any time soon. I'll be keen to check out the lens when it is available too.

If the 70-200 F2.8 can be used as a gauge... it's going to take a while...

Saw it at Alan photoshop Sim Lim earlier today. Price was (unfortunately cannot remember exact) about SGD850 - 900 I think. But for a fact cheaper than the Tamron 28-300mm. Is anyone using it already?

The nikon mount was already out since last week. Canon mount may be a month later. So it'll only be nikon users that might have already bought it.

Lighrules seems very impressed with it. From what he says here:
"...Overall my impressions of it are quite favorable. I REALLY like its massive focal coverage (15x), its VC unit is extremely good and effective (able to gain 4-6 stops), good build quality, quiet AF (albeit lacking ring design), and fairly consistent and good imaging quality throughout the focal range.... After having used the Canon 18-200 IS, the Sigma 18-200 OS, and this new Tamron 18-270 VC, the Tamron gets my "Top Pick" award." Can't wait for his full comparison shots. ![]()

if it performs as advertised, shouldn't be hard to beat the 18-200.
the 18-200 is very good as an all-purpose lens. but it isn't exactly tack sharp. unless the tammy is softer, then i dun think it's hard to beat. esp given that the tamron gives one an extra 70mm of zoom |
