Default Singapore Fireworks Fest '08 - 22 Aug

Here's a small sampling of picts taken that evening. Still a bunch to go due to the perspective correction and cropping work done ... (old comp lah... )
More to come as they get processed.

Enjoy!

Very nice pics there.

Seems like they are taken with ultra wide angle lens??

Mind sharing some tips on how to do perspective corrections (i.e.: what software to use)? Thanks.

Thanks!

Yes, they were taken with a Sigma 12-24mm in portrait orientation.

Perspective control can be done in Photoshop CS3. Under Filters>Distort>Lens Correction

I use it to correct the skewed (slanted) buildings at the peripheral of the pic. Namely the Ritz Carlton and the Westin in the picts. I believe there's a similar function in GIMP, if you do not have CS3.

Its the 'unwritten' code of conduct in almost all photographic forums. If you don't stick by it, I don't see you having many friends in these forums in the long term.

Young man... there's nothing to be scared of as I'm no professional photographer that make a living out of this, but would appreciate if you would shoo off and get your own thread.

There's much more to life than photography and much more to life than making a nuisance of yourself for the wrong reasons..

You're welcome. Hope it'll be useful.

On a side note, its also known as 'keystone correction'.

Thanks for sharing, but I'm very sure the reflection were done by PP. Its a nice piece of art but too obvious, ie water too waving at random

Are these done at very high f-numbers? Since the reflections are not photoshopped, I'm guessing that these exposures are quite abit longer than usual to get the reflections.

The Exif data are there for most of the picts. No secret about it.

Let me rephrase my reply to 'fresh angle':

If you can't figure out how its done doesn't mean its not real. If you haven't seen it being done probably means nobody has tried and not always has to be that it cannot be done..

These are real.

I've seen a few of your so called 'pp'ed' reflections and yet nobody has mentioned anything. These are real reflections off the water and I get censured for 'photoshopping' ??

Give me a break man.... if you want to verify, I'll gladly meet up to show you the RAW files in person.

Hi Fresh Angle, Evilmerlin,

I can verified that the reflections appeared in all of Kang Swee photos were all real !

I was standing beside him with my the other 2 friends and he showed me the photos on the spot. So they were all real.

And I captured the same type of reflections too. It is all about techniques and experience. No secret to hide

And to Kang Swee, I want to thank you personally for helping my friends Ken and Chooi Mei on that day. You are a great and friendly guy to know. And we share many similar thoughts about photography.

Great fireworks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I just managed to 'find' you in ClubSnap as you did not give me your CS id

Err, I've never said that the reflections are photoshopped. It actually didn't cross my mind that it can be done to begin with. All I asked was how it was done since I didn't match to capture the reflections properly in my shots.

Aiyah... not referring to you lah. Apologies if there was some mix up there as I was referring to "Fresh Angle".

Hi Thomas,

nice meeting you that day with your 2 friends. Well, everyone is learning along the way. It was a little embarrassing myself when I couldn't find the focussing ring on his kit lens!
This is also just a handful of times I've actually taken fireworks! So was glad that I could help really..

HAve to thank them two for making the trip to buy dinner... due to the rain, never realised how hungry I was until I got the box! Hahaha...

In all, a truely memorable experience.

Nice series
It's seems like your fireworks photo doesn't have much smoke compare to others that has posted here. Is there any secret in taking this kind of fireworks

Ya, I could not even remember how to activate the live view for my Nikon friend. Quite embarassing as I used the same camera. So ended up focusing for her manually thru' the viewfinder...but fortunately all turned up fine and sharp.

Actually quite boring to take firework but good experience for my 2 friends. I will be away for a week in Sulawesi so till then we chat again.
