Default hood 50f1.4 and 85f1.8

50f1.4 uses ES-71ii and
85f1.8 uses ET-65ii

can i use the hood for ES_71ii (Hood for 50f1.4) in 85f1.8.
and vice-versa
since both are having the same filter diameter of 58mm

...

What does a hood do? It blocks out stray light. Okay, with that being said, hoods are engineered to block out as much light as possible without causing vignetting, the dark corners of pictures.

So does it make sense to use a 85mm hood on a 50mm? Obviously not, right?

Don't be too quick to write it off... Some 17-40 owners on crop bodies use the 24-105 hood

Actually, hoods are designed conservatively, and bearing in mind, full frame cameras. ;-)

For a lot of designs, you could actually use a 100mm or even a 135mm hood on a 50mm lens on a 1.6x crop body. For maximum protection, that would make the most sense. BTW, I have used a hood at about 95mm on a 24 mm lens with no vignetting on a 1.6x bod.

that's all very well and good, but the hood has to physically fit onto the lens. the 17-55, 24-70 (probably), 24-105 have the same hood mounting and the same hood diameter, so you *could* use the hood, vignetting issues aside.

TS's question is if it is possible to use. the basic answer is the hood mounting is different, so you can't fit it on anway. (easily, at least).

What DM and I were trying to say is that using a hood from a long FL lens on a crop body is not such a ridiculous idea after all. So if TS finds his 50mm hood insufficient, he can probably use a 85mm hood assuming he is using a crop body and finds a way to attach it.

if you want a hood to fit both lenses, try buying one of those rubber hoods. problem solved.
