Hi, I want to ask something to the seniors here.
i'm a canon body user, and i'm interested in using the carl zeiss lenses as they produces a very sharp images. however, does the canon converter affect the image quality? or will the carl zeiss quality decreased as it is used in canon? what is thepositive and the negative side of using carl zeiss lenses in canon? thanks you very much for your advice ![]() |

how does the performance of a CZ lens stack against equivalent canon ef lens. Say will CZ 50/1.4 perform better or same as EF 50/1.4

i have used cz lenses on canon bodies
its lovely and amazingly sharp (even with my poor eyesight and manual focusing) make sure you research very well and get the right adapter (the wrong flange distance will screw up all your manual focus shots) have fun |

Have never used the CZ lenses before so I cannot comment, however they can be mounted on a Canon camera using an adapter (without an element) in similar fashion to all sorts of other alternative glass. Currently I'm using Leica lenses in this manner.
Besides Tagotech, if you're willing to take the risk of buying off Ebay, that's another source you can try. The adapters are quite inexpensive in general although there are horror stories of some very cheap adapters not having an even surface, or not allowing infinity focus to be reached, but I've had no such issue so far. Hope others will correct me if I'm wrong, but CZ lenses may come in either C/Y mount or Nikon mount, so make sure you've got the correct adapter. For the bulk of users I think there's little difference between an optic from CZ and one from Canon. Another thing you'd need to contemplate is if it's worth losing AF and electronic aperture control. These are very important for most people. Like I said, I've never used CZ lenses before, but if you compare them with the Canon equivalent, differences in color rendition may be most noticeable. For the two of the Leica lenses that I use (35mm and 90mm), it appears that the colors are not so red-heavy. Contrast is excellent straight from wide open whereas resolution is lower, leading to a general sense of sharpness yet smoothness at the same time. There is little chromatic aberration and good resistance to flare. Bokeh is smooth and pleasing as well. As you can see, there's a lot to a lens other than pure 'sharpness', which is itself subjective and depends on both contrast and resolution. The camera you use can make a big difference to your keeper rate due to the effect is has on your ability to focus accurately. Considering that you will usually focus with the aperture wide open and then stop down after that, it's an extra step that slows you down. Because of this you may opt to shoot wide open for fluid scenes and focus is of course critical because DOF is limited. If you're using a camera with a big viewfinder (such as a 5D or a 1Ds series camera) then you're in luck because focusing is much easier. However don't fret, regardless of what camera you have. There should be third party focusing screens out there that aid MF. Katzeye focusing screens comes to mind. |

I find that CZ glass is perhaps abit more neutral in rendition, but it captures the atmosphere very nicely. A few samples from my Planar 50mm/1.7

Well, any chance for a Leica lens to mount on a EOS body with adaptor?

Correct. Rangefinder lenses have different flange distance. Flange distance is the clearance between the rear-most plane of the lens mount, and the rear element.
This means that the rear element, or additional lens mount protrusions, may stick into your mirror box and cause your mirror to shatter should you fire off a frame with the lens mounted. |
