The only issue with using tyre made rubber bands is that the bands are not uniform edge-to-edge (since the tyre is cylindrical). Sometimes they anyhow cut making the problem worse :P

Instead of rubber bands, you can have a look at the HonlPhoto Speed Strap. IMO much easier to use as there is no need to exert so much force to mount any flash modifiers
http://www.honlphoto.com/servlet/the...e-flash/Detail Can DIY yourself by cutting a length of old nylon bag strap enough to wrap around your flash head, superglue a long piece of fuzzy velcro onto one side and a short piece of spiky velcro o the other side of the strap. This idea was obtained from the Strobist blog ![]() http://strobist.blogspot.com/2008/07...ed-straps.html |

There were suggestions to apply silicone onto the inner side to make it more grippy.

like that wont damage the flash? Though that rubber band will be better and not pasting anything onto the flash and its easy to remove and put on.

I don't have anything pasted onto my flash head.
Have a small army rubber band on the flash head for better grip (cannot stretch much further so it's very hard to fix on a bounce card with it). Then I wind my DIY speed strap round the rubber banded area. For my ABBC (which has velcro on it) I can just stick it onto the fuzzy velcro of the speed strap. For makeshift bounce cards like a piece of paper with no velcro I can use the speed strap to secure it like the Peter Gregg rubber band. So it's quite versatile I guess. Hope my explanation is clear |
