Question Does this type of diffuser remove shadows behind insects?

No, it won't. It MIGHT soften the shadow a LITTLE.

you probably need 2 of this near the side of the lens to achieve no-shadow or little shadow

Use a ringlight. The diffuser can only soften the shadow but cannot completely eliminate it.

If you are shooting macro, use a ring lite.
