I got the 70-200F4LIS due to it's price(not as ex as the 2.8IS), image quality(very sharp at f4) and IS(for emergency)
Moreover it isn't that heavy, so carrying around for long periods is not that backbreaking.

Tempdan, I really don't think that a poll like this would really benefit you personally. It all depends on what and how you shoot.

For me, I'm aiming for the 70-200 2.8IS at the end of the year. 70-200 for the telephoto range, 2.8 for the low-light + bump up ISO situations, and IS for the said low-light situations where the subject might not have moved that much, but my arms give way.

EDIT: No, I didn't vote cos I don't own it yet.

thanks

yup agreed, shooting is a personl preference.

doing the poll are to discover:
1. how many people actualy have 70-200L
2. why people get f4,f2.8 is or not. just "listening" to individual preference. there is no need to "quarrel" about who is right or wrong. cause there is no right or wrong, just personal perference

i was choosing between this & f4 IS coz of the sharpness. but you dont know when 2.8 comes in handy.

I've got the f4 IS..... mainly because the f2.8 is too damn $$$$

But chose the f4 also because it is much lighter

I bought the F4L IS mainly because of weight considerations.
The 2.8L/2.8L IS are excellent but be prepared to carry a heavy and bulky lens along. If you are willing to do this, by all means go for it. I wasn't, i like to travel light, therefore f4l was a natural choice.

I just got my 70-200 f/4 IS, last Saturday. Tried on the f/2.8 while at the shop, it is a monster to carry. I think after 10-15 minutes, the weight is really getting tough to handle.

Anyway, quite happy with the f/4 IS. Plus the 40D body, should be about 1.5kg thereabouts.

i have the f4 version while my brother has the 2.8IS version.

when shooting events with flash, because i'm using two bodies, i'd much prefer to have the f4 because of the weight.

imagine carrying

5D+BG+580EXII+24-105 over your neck
and
400D+BG+430EX+70-200f2.8IS over your shoulder. i'm sure many professionals do events with 2 1-series bodies and flashes and 2.8 lenses, but i'm not a professional

personally, because of the flash, i find that the weight of the f4 is more managable, but if i need the extra stop of light (and IS) i can always 'borrow' from my brother

f4 IS for me because of 2 factors
1) $$$$
2) Weight

Like most people said, the f2.8IS is just too ex for me.

Mounted the f2.8 IS on my 40D before. It was DAMN heavy. I seriously dun think I am willing to bring it for tour. The weight of the f4 IS is more manageable for me. (maybe becos I am weak )

that's an important consideration. if you're willing to lug lenses, bodies, flashes, etc etc etc for tour, as well as all the other barang (suitcase, father mother uncle auntie kids babies and their associated weight and accessories) then more power to you (you'll need it), the 2.8 would be a good choice.

if you're strictly using for photography shoots (events, portraits) you may want to consider the 2.8 versions.

there's no use owning a 1D with all the primes in the world if the only thing you're able to bring on holiday is a 350D+kit because of baby, wife, milk bottles etc.

70-200 f2.8 IS

Because I actually use f2.8 in low light situations without flash

I don't have an 85 mm, this lens makes a nice portrait lens

Can use with 1.4x tele and this combo is sharper than my other consumer teles
