I am trying to decide if I should get a third party or original Canon battery grip. Which do you use? Do you encounter problems with third party grips?
Thanks for any info.

be original. get canon lah. feels better and same feel as the body.
I bought the original canon b/grip for my 400D from a SLS shop (cannot trust them?!), and the first time i plugged it in, it short circuited the 400D circuit board! my 400D went blank. canon was kind enough to repair the b/grip (no warranty) and the 400D (got warranty) of course. so imagine if you buy a 3rd party one and it "ka-put" on your body... but apart from this incident, i'm for the canon b/grip anytime! Hi doodah, of course original is good if you have the moolahs.
But for me i think if u can save more money for canon's FLASH and LENSES, you should. Unless your loaded. Accessories like battery grip isn't that "technical" to have to use the first party imo. Take a look at Phototix, really nice raving reviews of their grips and batterys that support canon cameras. This third part brand is more quality focused. Just going to bump up this thread to ask a follow up question
Does anyone have any personal experience with any brands or ebay sellers to recommend, or any shops to buy from?

Get Canon's battery grip. Canon's grips are already bad / not well designed (compared to Nikon / sony), and thirdparty ones are even worse.
Have you even seen how bad the phottix 40D grip looks like?

http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Battery.../dp/B000EDB1II Apparently it's 100 percent the same, and most likely made from the same factory ![]() Okay, very embarassed, after playing with an asortment of search terms, I found this: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250895
