Default Fever

Rain outside. Son fever. The best time to catch him not moving around so much; so I used my Nikkor AIS 50mm 1.4 lens on D40 for this shot. Light source the window. I'm only about 1m away from him, explains the tight crop. Shot in colour but converted to BnW using saturation adjustment set to 0.

Thanks for viewing

if there was enough light in the location you were at. you could have adjusted your f-stop to bout f/2.8.

at f/1.4(if you used that aperture)... your son's left eye is OOF.

other than that.. he looks really sad. poor thing

Thanks for highlighting me on this. I dont realise that using f/1.4 may cause such effect until I get the pic, which left me wondering how come the focus is only so much? I thought its ok to bring out the effect, since his right eye is closer to the lens. I hope it had worked to bring out the mood.

I appreciate your comments. Thanks.

BTW, he was almost admitted to NUH with a fever of 38.9 earlier; rushed over after he started to vomit. I am keeping vigil tonight to monitor his condition... looks like ill be on child medical leave tomorrow...

yepp the facial expression of your son definetly brought about the mood of the shot.

if his fever still doesn't come down soon, better send him to hospital.

39.8 degrees is considered very high fever for a child already.

Thank you very much.
I realise I have not been able to replicate the same result many tries later... AIS 50mm f1.4 manual focusing on my D40 had been fun, although I've clicked >100 shots everytime I hold the camera just to get the ONE right shot, but its really worth the effort when the end product is great!

BTW, he is all smiles now bye bye fever!

i dont know if its a compliment or not, but this picture looks like something out of a documentary about health or the lack-of. sorry! but you've really captured a moment there. maybe less DOF would do better though. =)
