Personally for me, it'll be lens anytime.

When I was choosing my camera, I looked thru the lens from all the makers before making my decision on why brand to plunge my $$$ in...

Yup correct. But honestly for EF-S lens, the 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM is amaaazing. Same goes for it's expensive Nikon counterpart.

If I can start all over again....I will buy a D700 + 50mm f1.8.....then save hard for the AFS 14-24 f2.8 next year....and then save hard hard for the AFS 24-70 f2.8 the year after...so on and so forth....until the body obsolute probably after 5 years time....and start all over again

I'd go with the lens too. Though let's just say for discussion's sake the body was amazing but the lens is just average, I may go for the body instead.

Likewise. Good lenses on a entry level DSLR do achieve stunning results. Of course, be prepared to pay a high premium for these good lenses.

But we tend to forget something else also... It doesn't matter if you have a good body or a good lens. What's more important is the person behind the camera who knows his/her equipment very well...

I would say, go for the great lenses!

Cause personally I would think that the great lenses I have (well not at the moment ) would stick with me for my so-called photography life compared to the body.

There would be a higher chance of changing the body more often then changing lenses. Thats taking into consideration one has great lenses Example, a collection of Ls

I would prefer a good lens over a good body. But with digital cameras, the sensor quality is also of importance and so I guess both body and lens have to be good. With a mechanical film camera, shooting in full manual, the lens quality becomes far more important than the body.

totally agree with raaj.cee. with image sensor added into the equation, even the best lense need a good body to pair off.

When u shoot with film, the film itself is the 'sensor'. So selection of film type is also crucial.

    The lenses part, not true.

Example's the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II. It's out since around 1990. Now nearly 20 years later, still selling on the shelves.

I agree, good film is indispensable, but film is not as attached to the body as the sensor is.
