If you wanna go really wide, 10-20. For sharpness, from what I heard, 11-16.
I have the 10-20 and am using it with D40. The pictures were sharp enough for me ![]() |

You can check out the following link for test results of these lenses that you are looking for...

If you're not going to do much low light work, the 10-20mm is more versetile and would be my pick.

The Tokina would not AF on D40/x or D60. Sigma lenses with HSM would be able to AF on D40/x or D60... so your options would be limited if you are using it on D40/x or D60.

MS Colour is selling at $888 plus free Tokina filter. Stocks are out and should be coming in this week. You would need to reserve your lens with them and they will give you a call when the stocks are in. Cheers!

On a crop camera the Sigma 10-20 comes out tops for me, despite having a slower aperture than the 11-16. I also find it really versatile, having used it for environmental portraits (not photos taken in portrait orientation mind you, really portraits, of real people), as well as street, urbanscape and landscape.
Here's some samples: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

nice picture calebk. but from the reviews i read at kenrockwell, the tokina seems to be really sharp, maybe even sharper than the nikkor 12-24. Have you used the tokina 11-16? if so..do you have any pictures taken by that lens?

I am using D80 and also looking for a WA. I have narrow down my choices to Tokina 12-24 and Nikon 12-24. I dont like Sigma's 10-20 barrel distortion.
Tokina for me is sharp and the price is good. If you can afford it, go for the NIkkor lenses. Else, tokina. |

I do believe kenrockwell was NOT referring to the Tokina 11-16 but the Tokina 12-24 f/4. Personally, I find that KRW's Sigma is probably a bad copy. I do not do any sharpening to my images, and I find the Sigma to output pretty good detail on its own. Pokka, the Sigma actually has very minimal barrel distortion. I'll show you some samples below. The distortion you see in my earlier post is due to perspective, and is inherent of all UWA lenses. ![]() Sigma 10-20mm, EOS 1DMkII (1.3x crop), 13mm ![]() Sigma 10-20mm, EOS 30D (1.6x crop), 10mm ![]() Sigma 10-20mm, EOS 30D, 10mm You can see that even on a format larger than it was intended (first image), distortions hardly show up in real life application.
