I take some time to read your reply actually.

055 is much taller, but in order to have a higher tripod, you have to bear with higher cost (one time) but heavier(maybe life time).

question is, is it worth it?

I am 1.73 too... I am using 190XproB... no problem.
    haha.

maybe my decision about tripod height is a result of "old" technology and thinking.

cus last time shoot slides, if i tilt the tripod to shoot a building, all the convergence will be impossible to correct.

now, ve PS, PP a bit can liao.

so, maybe the 190 is a better choice.

lighter. the more often u bring your tripod out, the happier u will be .

if cheaper alternative, you can try manfrotto 488RC2 ard $150 weight abt 0.67kg max load 8kg
for ball head, try to get a top range. Head is more critical then tripod.

personally I am eyeing Gitzo explorer tripod and either Gitzo head or markins.
btw i am using giottos 1001-652 head, so i wont recommend it.

    happy buying...
$440 budget too high for me le...

Tripod VS Head. most of them may thot tripod is critical, but in SG clement, Head is more important.

    dun u guy agree?

save up to buy a good head otherwise Manfrotto 488RC2 shd do the job.

P.S. I never use it before

was at CP, J316 and benro's showroom yesterday to try, test and see these 2 tripods. personally am also considering between these 2 for my 450D. tho my set up is still starters but am trying to think further ahead. Indeed alot had mentioned "get a good tripod and you won't need to worry about getting another later down the road..", but still need to work within current budget..

do agree benro's 'quality' doesn't feel as good as the manfrottos. but also noted the price differences. the A500EX was quoted $180 while at J316 e manfrotto 190XPRO was quoted $290 with ballhead. (tripod is $185 and ballhead $105). price difference is $110.. hai. tough a decision for me also, esp when you're on a tight budget.

to think more before making e purchase soon.

i'm on a VERY tight budget as well (need to save for sb800/900, and 70-200 f2.8, THAT is a tight budget). But i still think i'd rather invest that 110 more in a good sturdy RELIABLE tripod that won't send my $4k plus worth of equipment on the gravity freefall express suddenly.

You pay $2k (arnd there) for your gear(not inclusive of more expensive lenses), you're reluctant to spend $110 more for a good tripod to keep it off the ground?

    hi, thx for the response

hmm, the "already spent ___ and not willing spend ___?" does strikes a chord, I guess when you consider the possibility of my cam crashing to the ground isn't that high, especially when i'm trying to convince myself if i would use the tripod more then once! hmm. well, that's my obstacle tho.

I have the 488RC2. The reason I chose it over the 486 is for the independent panning control and heavier load capacity. I use it with a Benro tripod (A227n6, now discontinued). The combo has worked well for me. The 488RC2 holds my camera with lens securely when tightened down, but it droops a little initially when released. Let me describe it another way : I hold my camera, tighten the knob, releases the camera, it'll droop a little, then it'll remain steady. It might be the ball mechanism or the QR mechanism - you learn to compensate for it really quickly.

I like my Benro tripod and it has been trouble free for me. Some others mentioned they had problems with the twist lock though. Every time I recommended a Benro, the person ended up with a Manfrotto, so I'd say just go with the 190XPROB

I will go for Manfotto tripod...

Saw the Benro... the Q is not that great..
and the bolts and nuts they are using is those cheappo types.

    I am using a 190CXPRO3 with 488RC2...
the head is really good and tripod is solid too.

So I think getting a Manfotto tripod will be a good choice.
