    haha. whatever it is.
well night86mare, what do you reckon?

    anw guys, thanks for replying!
i reckon that maybe IQ wise, canon is perhaps marginally better. build wise, you can see for yourself, sigma is built like a tank.

so if you want to pay a huge price for marginal image quality, that's fine.. if you have the money.. i say this because sigma is available grey, iirc, below $700 if you search.

    hahaha.
    i'm back to square one
but better, it's either Canon or Sigma!
can't really choose. but from your reply, i believe you prefer Sigma?

it is always the "bang for bucks" syndrome.

not all of us have unlimited budget to go out and get what we really want..

if Sigma can get reasonable images at a lower price..why not?

anyway, forum is a place where public gather for open discussion..

save tat few hundreds, can convert to other equipment!

i can't use the canon, i'm a pentax user. the wide angle zoom alternative from my brand is a 12-24. there's no 10mm, and i want a 10mm.. so it was easy for me.

i have seen the canon before, and frankly speaking the price difference is significant enough for me, if i were a canon user. both can produce good images, so it's really a matter of personal preference already. just make sure that the reasons are good ones, rather than "oh, i want every single one of my lens to be a canon lens, whee!"

    ok, thanks guys!

    oh ya oh ya.
it is written that vignetting will occur for the sigma 10-20 if lens is used with dSLR with image sensors larger than APS-C or 35mm SLRs, and APS SLRs.
    wat does APS-C stand for?
will vignetting occur if i mount this lens onto a 450D?
did some research, but to no avail (or i didnt understood). sorry, so i have to post here and ask.

I've got the 10-20mm lens; pretty happy with it.

One thing though; I rarely use the 10mm setting very much at all. The perspective distortion gets a little weird. Things improve from 12mm onwards so I usually start from there. Still, it's nice to have the additional wide-angle at 10mm when the shot calls for it.

    APS-C : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APS-C

APS-C is usually used to described 1.5x to 1.6x crop cameras. 1.3x crop cameras are called APS-H.

All Canon DSLR other than 1 and 5 series are APS-C format. There should not be significant vignetting. However, some filters may cause vignetting, esp. when aperture is wide open and zoom at widest.

    oh ya,
and it seems that sigma 10-20 and canon 10-20 are of about the same price.
price difference is of around $40-$50 (from AP)
and the salesperson ask me to get the canon one instead, while most of you guys here recommend me the sigma...
    geez... go hang myself...

no lah. if the price difference is minimal, by all means get the canon.

ppl only say get sigma if the price difference is significant.

i also use canon. but that time, grey set price for both is $700 and $990 respectively, so i bought the tokina 12-24.

attap seed is right. You must learn how to analyse the prices and make decisions on your own. Don't rely on advice from this person or that to make up your every move. This not just relates to alternatives of lenses of similar focal lengths, but also on any purchase.

you are sniffing about the wrong place, and i usually would not simply ask at ap, for obvious, obvious reasons if you browse CS more.

    cheers

Get the Canon 10-22 if the price difference is minimal. Besides the Canon 10-22 has a better resale value and has less of a QC problem.

    different places offer different prices.

i WAS introduced to AP by some lectures cos of the cheap prices.
and i remembered someone in CS saying, 'there are people who swear against and swear by AP'.
and i saw many many customers when i entered the shop.
don tell me... second hand goods? (i heard many stories from sim lim)
i bought my flash from there -.-

Dude, I do believe the Sigma goes for S$890 only.

Um, why not you just do your own research on AP right here on CS. I have sworn off them simply because of their sometimes dishonest sales ethics and because the way they serve you and quote prices to you is based on what they think of you (i.e. impressions).
