Default Epson printer 830 problems.......desperate

Hi all,

I am facing a problem with my Epson printer 830 and was hoping to find a solution to it:

When I print any file, colour or black and white, I get these coloured stripes on the image, even when printing in black and white mode (no colour inks being used).

I have adjusted the printer heads, cleaned them too, to no avail.

Below are two images: one the whole and second is an enlargement of an area where you can see those stripes. Take note that these images are converted to black and white....but the printout has the stripes in colour (photo is B&W and was printed in B&W mode)............. can't get rid of them, not even by increasing the printer resolution (up to 2900 dpi in photoshop) as suggested by a salesman of Cathay Photo.

I was planning to buy the Lyson B&W inks but if I am still getting these lines, there is no use getting them, I will be getting B&W lines then...:-(

if the cleaning doesn't work, try reseating the printer catridges again. if that doesn't work, you need a new printer head or a new printer.

I have got the same problem as you (using Epson C41UX)

Black strips appeared while printing in photo mode (though while printing text and normal graphics is ok)

Sorry, have to add:

The problem is the worst when I choose to print for 'quality' instead for 'speed' and also appears when printing text.

Try automatic for text, see whether there is any strip or not.

For my printer, this problem occurs when printing high quality photos. Text and normal graphics are ok.

Another problem with the printer is the print heads tend to require cleaning if I don't use it for some time.

This is my third Epson printer already. I think the problem comes when we don't print very often, so the printer/ink dun last.

Is this covered by the warranty? How much does it cost to replace the head? It seems to me that considering the price of this printer it is not worth to replace the head, isn't it? ...Hmmmm i suspect the manufacturers these days make a living from making low quality and cheap products, so that they can keep on producing......:-)

I am not very sure whether it is covered or not. If it cost to replace the head, I would say buying a new printer would be better.

The printers nowadays are indeed of low quality. That's why they can keep the price low (bought a new Canon S200Spx for $91)

Apparently the head is gone, its different from clogged nozzles, no amt of cleaning will help in this case, just bring it to the epson service centre. They will replace it for free if its still under warranty.

I was told that once the ink is seated dun take it out coz air bubble will get in and spoil the catridge.

Hi Hong Sien,
Epson should repair it for free. They will even deliver the printer home - the service in Sg is good. That said, I have given up on Epson due to the poor quality which no amount of good service can compensate for. I've seen a friend's Epson 810 exhibit the same problem, but it happened more than a year after he bought it. Had to sell it for peanuts and switched to Canon. *sigh* electronic goods are getting worse and worse.
